Get Up! Make It Happen!

A comparison of a cozy brown slipper and a black running shoe placed on a snowy wooden surface.

Take action; make it happen.

Take action, make it happen . 176 days ago, I, the grand procrastinator, finally took the action of getting up off the couch and went for a 2-mile walk. Yesterday, I jogged 5.11 miles and feel the benefits. Improvements in life don’t come by osmosis, it requires action with purpose.  You don’t need a detailed workout plan or a marathon goal to begin, you just need commitment and action. Start with a broad goal to be a better you, working day by day to improve mentally and physically.

My results so far:

  • Blood pressure: Down by 20 points.
  • Weight: 20 pounds less.
  • Mindset: Mentally a more positive mindset.

The “Fire Wheel” Mindset

“Long distance runner, what you standin’ there for? Get up, get out, get out of the door!”

Life is meant to be lived, not watched from the sidelines. It takes a real, daily effort to engage with the “Fire Wheel” mindset. Even with that mindset, success doesn’t always follow your plan. Sometimes it is 3 steps forward, 2 backward, it can be frustrating. But you keep finding a way to “go a little further” than you went before.

The truth is, I’m not sure where this journey is going to take me. I don’t know if I’m “going to hell in a bucket,” “but at least I’m enjoying the ride. The point isn’t just the destination—it’s traveling the adventure of the effort itself.

No More Excuses

On this 1st day of January 2026, don’t worry about grand resolutions. Just take action on being a better you. Whether it is exercise or lifestyle changes, get out there and make it happen. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Don’t get caught up in thinking you need a grand plan, just flexible vision of a future you see for yourself. Traveling off the planned path is part of the growth.

Embrace the Adventure

There will be potholes, roadblocks, and even failure. But if you don’t make the effort, nothing gets better. Every endeavor is a learning opportunity. Success may not happen in the time or way you expect, but “once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.”

Stop watching from the sidelines. Get out there and discover the opportunities waiting for you in this adventure we call life.
